I have been working very hard on our human-dad.  I call him OUR human-dad now because Uncle Parker said I will be his special new dog soon.  Somehow Uncle Parker must have made our human-dad understand about me, because our human-dad plays with me and brings me treats now.  Sometimes he makes me do things before he gives me the treats.  But I don't mind.  It is some kind of human-game.  I am learning to sit, stand, and not to chew on our human-dad's hands.  But I still sense that the bond between our  human-dad and Uncle Parker is very strong.  It seems to be getting stronger the more Uncle Parker's leg hurts.  And I can't penetrate that bond.  I don't think I should try.  I have lots of time, I can be patient.

When my human-dad plays with me we have lots of fun.  But when he sees Uncle Parker watching he gets very sad and he goes to sit with Uncle Parker.  They just sit together, touching each other.  It is almost magical, they don't need words to know how much love they feel for each other.  They just look in each other's eyes and they know.  Uncle Parker is so lucky.  Some day I want to learn how to do that with our human-dad.  They must have shared many great adventures together to become so close.  I want to grow up just like Uncle Parker - except for the black colored fur.

As the sun went down our human-dad made something called a fire inside a little window.  It made a funny light, and it was very warm.  I was curious about it, but when I got too close our human-dad scolded me.  It was too hot to play with anyway.  So our human-dad made me lay on the floor by him and he just petted me a while.  He tried to get Uncle Parker to join us.  But Uncle Parker said the fire-stuff was too hot on his black fur.  He lay down near us, but not near the fire-thing.  It was enough that he was close to our human-dad.  That fire-stuff is interesting.  It sure can keep a pup warm.  I was so comfortable and warm that I fell asleep.  When I woke up my human-dad was still petting me there.  I liked laying by the fire.  I hope we can do that more.

As it got darker outside little humans started coming to the door and making funny noises.  Uncle Parker laid by the door in the shadows.  When the little humans would knock on the door Uncle Parker would bark WOOF-WOOF-WOOF real loud.  The little humans would scream and jump, and Uncle Parker would wag his tail real hard.  Then our human-dad would open the door and the little humans would get treats.  The little humans were dressed in funny clothes.  It was some kind of game I think, trying to be real scary.  I tried to scare the little humans like Uncle Parker did, but they just called me a cute puppy and laughed.  I guess I need to wait until I am a GREAT Dane.
